Each year 10 past campers between the ages of 16 - 18 have the chance to return to camp to volunteer as Youth Leaders. First, interested applicants compete in an essay contest. Applicants whose essays are chosen are then called for a face to face interview. Once applicants are selected they attend a 3 day training session in Medicine Hat prior to camp. The training further develops their management, leadership and communication skills. They participate in team building and familiarize themselves with their roles and responsibilities for camp. During the week of the camp the Youth Leaders assist the campers with their business plans and also help lead the recreation activities. These young adults have gone on to further develop their leadership skills, many volunteering in their local communities, some attending leadership scholarships, and others even returning to the camp as adult volunteers! If you are interested in applying to become a Youth Leader, please contact your local Community Futures Office.
