Student Business Services

Student Business Services is comprised of many different areas tailored towards youth ages 15-29. We assist high school, university, and college students to create and start summer businesses. The Student Business Services Program assists students from "getting an idea" to the "opening and operation", to the "wind down" of the business in the fall when students are going back to school. Students are assisted with marketing & bookkeeping techniques, locating suppliers and general business set up. This program operates from March to October of each year. We also provide one to one counselling for youth ages 15-29 with their business ideas.

Presentations

Throughout the school year FREE presentations are made to various schools in and around Medicine Hat. These presentations are targeted towards entrepreneurship as a career alternative. Our goal is to make students aware of the options available to them should they wish to further pursue their interest in the area of small business. We deliver free presentations to the schools of South Eastern Alberta where we will provide basic information on entrepreneurship and starting a small business. Presentations also include discussion on characteristics of an entrepreneur, advantages and disadvantages of owning your own business, why you need a business plan, and Youth Services available at Community Futures Entre-Corp. Presentation length can vary from 10 minutes up to one hour depending on time allotted and student participation. For more information or if you would like a free presentation for your class, contact Community Futures Entre-Corp at (403) 528-2824 or toll free at 1-888-528-2824.

Through this program we can help youth ages 15-29 obtain an interest-free loan of up to $3,000. Student entrepreneurs use this money to operate their own business during the summer months. The financing can be used for start-up costs and operating costs. These loans are interest free until October 15th of the current calendar year, when repayment is due. To be eligible for this program you must be returning to school in the fall. Applications will be reviewed between April 1st and June 30th of each calendar year.
